EQ Buddy is operated by Momentus SIA, a company registered in Latvia (registration number 41503082584). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the EQ Buddy mobile application (“the App”).

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Emotion Journal Data (Stored on Your Device)

The core of EQ Buddy is your emotion journal. When you log an emotion, the following data is created and stored locally on your device:

Selected emotion and intensity level
Situation or activity (if provided)
Body part sensations (if provided)
Personal notes and causes (if provided)
Whether the emotion felt helpful (if provided)
Timestamps of entries

This journal data stays on your device by default. It is never sent to our servers in its raw form.

1.2 iCloud Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud sync, your journal data is synced across your Apple devices using Apple’s CloudKit service. This data is encrypted and managed by Apple under their privacy policy. You can enable or disable iCloud sync at any time in the App’s Account settings.

1.3 Aggregated Insights Data

To generate personalized daily insights, the App sends aggregated, non-identifiable statistical signals to our backend service (hosted on Supabase). This includes:

Top emotions and their relative frequency
Average emotion intensity and variability
Situation and body part correlations (by category, not raw text)
Ratio of helpful vs. non-helpful emotions
Number of entries in the analysis window

We do not send your personal notes, specific timestamps, raw journal entries, or any text you type to our servers.

1.4 Analytics Data

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used. This includes:

Which features are used (e.g., tabs opened, emotion logging flow steps)
General app usage patterns (session counts, feature adoption)
Device type and operating system version

Analytics data is collected in aggregate and does not include your journal content, personal notes, or identifiable information. We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) and do not track you across other apps or websites.

1.5 Crash Reports

We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix app crashes. Crash reports include technical information such as device model, operating system version, and stack traces. They do not contain your personal journal data.

1.6 App Configuration

We use Firebase Remote Config to deliver app configuration updates (such as maintenance notices and update recommendations). This service does not collect personal data.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

EQ Buddy does not collect:

Email addresses or account credentials (no account required)
Location data
Health data beyond what you voluntarily log in the journal
Contact information
Photos or media
Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
Browsing history

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

Provide personalized daily emotional insights based on your patterns
Deliver guided exercises relevant to your emotional state
Maintain and improve the App’s functionality and performance
Detect and fix crashes and bugs
Deliver app configuration and update notices

We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, or profiling purposes.

4. Data Storage and Security

Local data is stored in an encrypted CoreData database on your device.
iCloud data (if enabled) is encrypted by Apple and stored in your personal iCloud account.
Aggregated signals sent to our backend are processed over encrypted HTTPS connections and are not stored with any device or user identifier.
Analytics and crash data is processed by Google Firebase under their security and privacy standards.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

5. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services, each operating under their own privacy policies:

6. Data Retention

Local journal data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
iCloud data is retained in your iCloud account until you delete it or disable sync.
Aggregated insight signals are processed in real-time and not persistently stored on our servers.
Analytics data is retained by Firebase according to Google’s data retention policies (typically 14 months).

7. Your Rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Latvian data protection law, you have the right to:

Access your personal data stored in the App (visible directly in the journal)
Rectify inaccurate data by editing your journal entries
Delete your data by deleting entries within the App or uninstalling it
Restrict processing by disabling iCloud sync in Account settings
Data portability (your data is stored locally on your device)
Withdraw consent for iCloud sync at any time via Account settings
Lodge a complaint with the Latvian Data State Inspectorate (Datu valsts inspekcija, www.dvi.gov.lv) or your local data protection authority

Since EQ Buddy does not require an account, most of your data is under your direct control on your device.

We process data on the following legal bases:

Consent for iCloud sync (opt-in during first use)
Legitimate interest for analytics and crash reporting (to maintain and improve the App)
Contract performance for generating insights based on your journal data (the core service you use the App for)

9. International Data Transfers

iCloud data is processed by Apple in accordance with their data processing agreements.
Analytics and crash data is processed by Google (Firebase) and may be transferred to servers outside the EU. Google operates under EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Insight signals are processed by Supabase, which hosts data in accordance with their data processing agreement.

10. Biometric Data

EQ Buddy offers an optional Face ID / Touch ID lock feature. The App uses Apple’s built-in biometric authentication API. No biometric data is collected, stored, or transmitted by the App. Biometric verification is handled entirely by the operating system.

11. Children’s Privacy

EQ Buddy is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the App, please contact us and we will take steps to delete any associated data.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
